Elemens has launched the BESS Index, available at bess.elemens.it, the first indicator related to revenues in the spot markets for utility-scale stand-alone batteries in operation in the Italian electricity system.
This tool was created to provide industry players with up-to-date and detailed information on the economic performance of BESS. On the portal, which is freely accessible but with some information reserved for Elemens reporting subscribers, users will be able to find a wide range of granular information related to individual assets and different markets, along with statistics related to price spreads and backtests related to the profitability of assets with different durations.
The Elemens index was born in a context in which the development of storage has seen exponential growth in the past two years, with connection requests exceeding 200 GW according to Terna data and authorized plants not yet in operation reaching more than 3 GW, based on Elemens tracking of RES / BESS / Thermoelectric plant pipelines under development. The phase of the regulated mechanisms that will support the grounding of investments now opens, with Capacity Market and MACSE auctions expected in the coming months: along with long-term scenarios, having benchmarks of the actual market performance of assets represents crucial information for operators to define strategies for participation in auctions.
